I didn't find much help in this book. I have baked bread since I was 15...some 44 years now. I started off by hand of course because back then, you didn't have all you have today. Then I went to bread machines, and the dough hooks on various stand mixers. I like to try new things and so I thought I would give the food processor a go. I already knew that you had to keep the dough on the cooler side so as to not overheat the yeast from the machine. I already new about all the ingredients as stated in this book but if you didn't know, then its good for reference. I went out and bought a thermometer to test the dough. I couldn't seem to get the dough as cool a temp. as the book wanted but it came out okay anyway, which I kind of thought it would. I don't think it needs to be as hard for the everyday person as this book is making it out to be. Mostly I think just keep the dough on the cooler side. I didn't see much difference in the staying fresher longer because its being made in the processor, as this book stated. It certainly did not stay fresher using a paper bag as this book stated either. My rolls were very hard just the next day. Something I did learn was that cold, not hot water dissolves the dough you want to clean up, that was handy. I think it might have worked better stopping the processor after 20 sec. and letting the dough absorb the liquid before continueing, that was good.I disagreed with the book on saying regular table salt left a metallic taste in the dough, I have never found this, as you use such little salt anyway, I went ahead and tried sea salt and didn't see a difference in my bread between that and regular salt. I also did not agree with not oiling the bowl, Not at all, It helps the dough stay moist and not dry out and I did not agree with No oils used in the dough as this book says. I use olive oil in my pizza dough and have for years and I use olive oil on the bowl as well and its very good. I didn't agree with him on using the metal blade rather then the dough blade either, because I don't want to cut my dough, I want to knead it. I don't think you need to be that rough with dough and I don't think you WANT to be that rough on dough.I have also used a scale for measuring and not used a scale and I don't think thats very important either for the simple reason that flour absorbs humidity and one day is not the same as the other, if the dough is too dry, you add a little more liquid and if its too wet, a little flour. All in all, I just think for the average person that wants a quicker way to make bread, all this isn't necessary. Just make sure the dough is on the cooler side and then proceed as usual, and I bet you will be fine.

I bought this book because it said that it was devoted to making the dough in the food processor and since I bought a new one for the holidays, I thought why not a book on the topic. I was surprised by the recipes, the science about the process as well as delicious recipes that this man came up with. This book is a keeper. If you like homemade bread buy a good food processor, one that holds 13 or 14 cups, an instant read thermometer, and a couple of good loaf pans and go to town.

I got the book yesterday. I was expecting a much smaller book without all the technique information and background. I enjoyed spending the evening (a couple of hours) reading the book. I have been reading about and making bread for years and learned much from this author. Four stars because I have not tried a recipe yet. I will return with an update. (The price on this book was super reasonable.)

This book was sent to my Daughter. I have had my own copy for many years now. I make sourdough bread and this is by far the fastest and easiest way I have ever made bread. Follow the instructions and perfect bread follows. I started baking bread hand kneading, then graduated to my KitchenAid stand mixer and now food processor. I bought this book without really understanding the method he uses. I have a lot of bread books but this is the one thatâ€™s dog eared and full of flour.

I know this will sound like a great exaggeration but this is one of the best purchases I ever made in my long life! Why? That's because I have been able to make perfect very crunchy baguettes with tasty chewy interiors EVERY single time I have followed Mr. Van Over's recipes. Following his recipes means using a kitchen scale for measuring the amount of flour instead of volume measuring cups. You should also a digital thermometer for measuring the temperature of the flour and water before kneading the dough and for measuring the temperature of the kneaded dough. No one I know has tasted better French baguettes than I have made following Charles' recipe!

I love 'shortcuts'...er, I guess they're 'hacks' today :) And this book makes it so easy to bake the BEST bread ever.... with a food processor, of course :) It's fun to take the 'gourmet' route when cooking, but priceless to have a quick & foolproof process as Plan B.

Just okay to have an idea about the bread recipes but I can not follow the technics mentioned here ,as I just do not find them practical. Maintaining the temperature of the dough while kneading needs lots of patience and my dough always shows on higher side.Infact the water also turned out too much for these bread/pizza recipes. I have my bread dough proofing in the refrigerator ,hope it comes out as great as mentioned in the book, the power of retardation.

Anyone who is still mixing and kneading bread the traditional way is obviously doing it for some other reason than the quality of the bread. This book makes breadmaking so easy that a novice can turn out perfect baguettes and European breads by following the steps in each recipe. Even after 20+ years of baking, this is truly the best bread I've ever made. The explanations are precise, easy to follow, and have been adapted to different kinds of food processors. I bought the book for the recipes, but the first fifty pages of text were fascinating and essential to learning this new and exciting method of the ancient craft of breadmaking. You definitely want this book in your cooking library.

The Golem and the Jinni is a genre bender. There is a lot of historical fiction woven in, so if you are looking for a straight fantasy novel this may not be for you.The writing in this book reminds me a lot of The Bear and the Nightingale in that it felt very atmospheric as well as giving off a strong classic fairy tale vibe. This book has a very slow pace overall, most of the action happens in the last 15% of the book. The author gives of us a lot of backstory interwoven with the characters present day actions, and none of it is really tied together until the end. The ending was sort of fantastic, like the lynch pin that holds everything together. For these reasons, this book will take patience to read.The characters take time to grow on you. Maryam Faddoul, Arbeely, and the Rabbi I liked right from the beginning, but the Golem and the Jinni you grow to love over the course of novel and again, it isn't until the end that you really feel anything for them.My only real issue with this book, involves big spoilers so read ahead at your own risk: The deaths of Michael Levy and Dr. Saleh seemed to be glazed over. No real gravity was given to their deaths. They seemed so tragic in that they were completely innocent and Dr. Saleh's was completely heroic, but none of the characters in the book seem to acknowledge their deaths or their sacrifices and this kind of bothered me. I personally didn't feel much about them one way or the other, and I felt like I should have. I should have wanted to cry about it but I didn't, which is why I gave the book overall 4 stars and not 5.

My new favorite book of all time.Yes, it's got a slow pace, that worked out for me. As and adult, I can only read on my lunch breaks. If I came back to the book over the weekend, I'd have no problem jumping right back in. Perhaps if I tried to read it all in a day, I'd find myself a little annoyed. The pace picks up at the end though...I'd say around the time of the dance.We get pretty in depth with all these characters early on, finding out their backstories and all, but Wecker's prose makes it a joy. And every character we get to know shines in the end. This is a cast of essentially good people. They believe in the goodness of humanity and want what's best for others. This is not at all a cynical book. It's about freedom, and people who are just a little odd finding ways to be themselves in society.Ice Cream Saleh, Anna, Arbeely, they are all awesome to read about, but the titular Golem and the Jinni really so shine as characters. The Jinni's impulsive, passionate, is endlessly curious about humanity despite thinking himself as superior to it, values freedom and life. The Golem is a new soul, also curious but more cautious, so empathetic it hurts, and is naturally a protector. You want them to meet, and then you want them to be happy together. They are believable as friends or as lovers. They bicker a lot, but have a lot of respect for one another too.This book makes me grin so wide even a month after finishing it.

The Golem and the Jinni is an extraordinary combination of historical novel (set in New York City during the height of immigration) and fantasy. Bptj the historical and fantasy elements are strong and credible. Wecker does a great job at establishing the novel's constraints and sticking to them. But beyond the mechanics, her storytelling expertise is stunning - especially for a writer's first novel!!! The characters are revealed through action and dialog in the most natural way. The pacing is perfect, the transitions between story-lines seem effortless. Through all of this, she manages to tell a compellingly complex story both from the perspective of the fundamental plot lines and in her development and maturation of the main characters.As I was reading it, I even found myself deliberately slowing my reading pace down so that I could savor the novel, to better appreciate Ms. Wecker's artistry. I sincerely hope that she doesn't wait another 7 years to produce her second novel!

I found this book enchanting and beautiful to read. The story is interesting, the characters are well developed and relatable, and it's set against the background of 2 fascinating cultures. The premise is this: golems come from the Jewish mythology, which tells that a particularly skilled rabbi can create himself a servant by animating a clay image of a person. The jinni is a disembodied, supernatural being from the Middle Eastern mythology, and can be enslaved by humans through the use of magic. They both find themselves in the immigrant communities of New York, trying to find their place in the world, torn between their true nature and the need to blend in among beings that are so similar and yet so different from them.I found the snapshots of daily life in the Syrian and Jewish immigrant communities fascinating, I learned much I didn't know about them. The way the author interweaves the magic and mythical part into the mundane was very well done. The book is just well written, start to end, I couldn't find any faults in it. I look forward to this author's future books, but this will be a hard act to follow!

The story was interesting, if a bit slow moving. The writer has a bit of slow, fluid way of writing, which works for the story overall, but some of the scenes just seem so...unnesscary.The Golem's story, almost entirely throughout, is very unique and you can really feel some sympathy for her. Even very small little scenes really enrich your idea of her.But the Jinni...the whole side thing with the heiress seemed so pointless to the book overall. His attitude and artistry were interesting, amusing and illuminated his character, but the heiress seemed only to fill up some pages till he finally met the Golem.

30 Easy Spanish Guitar Solos is by far the best music book for the price. For less than $12 you get a 63 page book with songs listed in both tablature and standard notation along with a CD of every song in the book. The book can be made to lay pretty flat on my music stand. As an intermediate guitar player some of these songs were already known to be but others were not. The CD is great to just listen to as well. The songs in this book are for the more advanced beginner up to intermediate player. After I listened to the CD I found five songs that appeal to me enough to want to learn them. Everyone's tast is different and I suspect when you listen to the CD you will also find a few songs worth learning. That is well work the price of the book for me if I can identify a select few songs worth spending the time to learn. Below is a list of the songs in this book in the order they appear. I have placed asterisks next to the songs that appealed to me. I have been practicing classical guitar seriously for 1 year (and have some sporadic past experience of playing too). I have finished first position and played some 2nd position pieces so far. I bought this book since other reviews said the musics are pretty. I knew likely I wouldn't be able to play them at this point, but wanted to have the book for future when I get more advanced.I listen to the CD frequently. Musics are short (mostly 1.5 min long) but overall pretty. What makes it pretty, also, is the guitar it is played with. It seems to be a spruce-top with type of strings that make sound sharp and crisp. I listen to classical guitar music all the time, playings by different players with different guitars. I have never heard a guitar like this, maybe it's the recording, or the strings, or the guitar; first string is very bell-like, and all strings are sharp and bright, more than other playings I have heard. This makes the musics more vibrant and pretty.I think you should have about 2 years experience of serious practice to be able to tackle the music in this book. I have not heard most of these musics elsewhere, but a few examples that are famous are: Adelita, Lagrima, Romance, first part of Asturias, and a short Maleguana. I'd like to give this FIVE stars and cannot. The only reason is that fingerings (p-i-m-a) are not included. Yes, it does give provide tablature notation for playing AND it doesn't include any p-i-m-a info. Essentially this means if you don't know the chord structure a piece uses, you'll spend some time figuring out the most efficient way to move from one note or chord to another. I've been playing a few years (well, more than a few) and while I'm not stumbling over this, some changes do give me pause.I think the word, "Easy," in the title is a little misleading as this is really not a great book for beginners, and beginners are looking for, "Easy," material. Some of the pieces are easy; others are not due to fingering and music notation. To get the full use of this book you need to have good knowledge of music notation (e.g. alternate endings, what is-and how respond to Coda, slides-a few intros use them, ties, dotted notes et al). This book is perhaps a good choice for an advanced-beginner to intermediate player than for a real beginner.The range of pieces presented are great and the accompanying CD is well done. Use the CD to learn how a piece should sound and the tempo you're shooting for when you master a piece.I recommend this book and would like to see the next printing include some hints on fingering (p-i-m-a). That would make this a solid Five star product.

Cisco has broken down the CCNA exam in to 2 separate exams and the 640-811 is the ICND exam. What this book offers you is a decent chance of passing the exam and with other books in the Self Study Series you should do fine.The book does a good of breaking down the objectives and I like the section quizzes, although you could add more questions. The section for configuring switches is also excellent as well as the section on VLAN setup and configuration. What is missing is some sort of simulator to allow you to practice and I think this should be added in any future editions.I found the book detailed and technically accurate with the material that is presented. One thing I have always found with Cisco Press is that the wording in some section is little above the intro level that is associated with CCNA. The author has done a fairly good job of making sure each exam objective is covered, in fact this book can be used for the 640-801 CCNA exam as well.Along with the missing simulator there is no practice exam software either, and with those two things added this book would be a great go resource to have. Overall a few fixes and additions and you should be ready to rock.

The new split approach to the CCNA coursework, with the INTRO and ICND books, have provided better organization and a modular breakdown to the information. As a recertification candidate who just completed my exams, I can say that these books are a definite improvement over earlier versions such as 640-607. Odom (or other technical editors) have taken the time to present the information in a building block manner that is comprehensible. I won't repeat the longer descriptions of content that are already present in these reviews.Two points worth noting:1. Errata: Always exist with technical books (don't know why the editors can't check them thoroughly before going to print). Some mistakes are indeed frustrating and trivial, which undermine the learning process for future CCNA candidates learning this material for the first time, who do not have the experience to distinguish the wheat from the chaff. Be sure to go to the Cisco Press website to get latest updates for errata (which are still incomplete) as well as corrected/updated test engine modules. Some of the problems people have reported, especially with bad exam questions, are due to failure to update.2. Whether or not candidates have tested before, all should be aware that Cisco, in an effort to foil "paper tigers", has stepped up the exam effort to represent real world problems. Without violating the non-disclosure agreement, I simply encourage exam candidates to go beyond using practice tests (Cisco or otherwise) with multiple choice questions. These are not enough to develop your analysis skills, and in the real world as well as on the exams, those are what count. If you can't work on a network for exam preparation, then use the sims and labs, and test yourself with the detailed word problem questions at the end of the chapters, not just the "Do I Already Know This?" questions at the beginning. The reviewer who claims in this column that these books are boring and of no use neither understands the nature of certification nor Cisco's intent. These books will prepare the candidate sufficiently if used to their fullest extent. Because Cisco advertises that test versions vary, for obvious security reasons regarding the protection of test content, there is no way to avoid a certain amount of exam overpreparation. But then, we are supposed to be preparing for real-world, are we not?One final note: My preference in future printings would be to have Odom drop some of the personal humor. Just my subjective observation, but to me, it detracts from the content.

AppendixesThe book is designed to be a self study guide for the CCNA 640-801and ICND 640-811test. I consider it an excellent reference and study guide. The first chapter is the basic foundation of Internetworking concepts. It covers the OSI model, communication between the layers, encapsulation and de-encapsulation, and collision and broadcast domains. Although it covers the basics, it assumes you already have some experience with this information. It is more to the point than say the Cisco CCNA intro book (CCNA Self-Study CCNA INTRO Exam Certification Guide (ISBN 1587200945) by Wendell Odom). If you do have experience this book is what you are looking for. If you are new like me you may need a little extra help from the INTRO book, but don't pass this book up it is a great book to have as well.The second and third chapters are great training for working with Cisco switches.They cover from the basics of switching, to configuring, to Spanning Tree, to Vlan operation and configuration, with great examples and charts of commands.The next section, (chapters 4, 5, and 6) covers Routing and how IP routes are determined with static routes or dynamically with one of the routing protocols. It covers what the protocols are such as RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, and how to configure them. IP traffic management and access list are also covered.The third section, (chapters 7, 8, and 9) covers Interconnecting WANs. These chaptersStart with a WAN overview and cover topics such as serial point to point connections, frame relay and ISDN BRI call.All chapters have very good examples and charts. A summary and questions are at the end of each chapter. Most chapters have case studies for examples of real life situations.I even liked the appendix section that cover such topics as, password recovery, recovering a lost switch image using Xmodem, configuring the Catalyst 1900 switch, and of course answers to the chapter questions, and case study review.If you need to study for the CCNA test I think you will be pleased with this book and its clear explanation of the subject. Mr. McQuerry you have done and excellent job. I can tell you that this book has been a great help to me at my job, and that it will be kept as a reference for some time to come.I found this book to be a great help to me and highly recommend it.

Great book for exam preparation.The only drawback I found was in the VLAN Chapter.The vlan configuration does not correspond to a 2950 switch.The configuration will work on a 3500 switch, but the exam willtest your knowledge of a 2950.Also there is no errata at ciscopress.com

DAT Achiever, DAT Destroyer, StudentDoctorNetwork.net, Wikipedia, and This thing are your best sources for DAT studying. Throw in the kaplan book just to make sure you cover all the subject matter and you're complete.These exams are EXTREMELY easy compared to the actual DAT. That being said, the grading is very difficult. If you get just one or two wrong on a section, it drops you down more than a few points. This is how the actual DAT is, but the questions are a little more difficult.Use this thing if you're out of study materials and you have a week or two left till the exam. It's not really good for anything other than keeping you busy.Check out the Barrons book for the PAT section. The book is worthless for everything else, but it's PAT is really good. It's got tons of mistakes in it, so you must check your PAT answers by yourself or with a friend. Don't look at the other sections, they're all incorrect.I'm now a second year at UCSF...

As a poor college student trying to make it to dental school, I was hesitant to buy this. However, it turned out to be the best 90$ investment for the actual DAT. I bought the Princeton Review DAT study guide and this product, and it was very helpful. I actively studied about 2 weeks before the actual DAT exam (about 5-6 hours a day). Prior to those two weeks, I studied on and off during the college semester whenever I had the time and energy. I would say that the most helpful method to prepare before actually taking practice exams is to study hard during college. It makes it easier to study for the DAT.As for the product itself, I thought it was slightly confusing to use at first but all went well in the end. One thing to take into consideration is that it does EXPIRE after 7 months. The PAT section did have repeat questions in each of the 3 tests, and by the time I did the third test I could already see what the answer was. In addition, the answers need to be evaluated by looking at the answer sheet and comparing it to the answer that you chose - unlike the science and math section, it does not show you the right answer and explanation on the spot.Finally, the grading system was questionable. I repeatedly got a total score of 18 on each of the 3 exam (I also scored a 16 and 17 on the Princeton Review exam, which I also thought questionable). However, on the actual DAT I got a score of 21, and a ran out of time on every section except the science section. To summarize, I score 17 Biology, 22 Chemistry, 23 Organic Chemistry, 21 Reading, 21 PAT, and 24 Quantitative Reasoning.Overall, I was happy with my score and with the little time and money for studying, I thought this was a great investment.

If you're going to prepare for the DAT, purchasing this software is still a good idea. However, please be aware of certain weaknesses of this software, as there are some: 1) After taking the real DAT, I realized the science sections of this software were more difficult, partly due to the highly specific nature of the questions. 2) I noted that there were an annoying number of incorrect answers on the PAT sections of this test. A portion of the sample questions were clearly variations of those on the official test. Yet, some of these figures were misdrawn, (esp on the top-front-end sections) such that diagrams contradicted each other. Therefore, we're forced to guess between two wrong answers, trying to predict which was the intended correct answer.

Be aware when purchasing the TOP Score CD, that what you are buying is pretty much 3 practice tests. There is some information on tips for taking the DAT and an outline of what you should know, but it is not a study guide. The CD was good for the most part, but the solutions to questions were terrible, the perceptual ability tests were not as difficult as the PAT on the actual DAT, and I did find multiple mistakes throughout the practice tests. The CD will help you study, but whether it's worth the high price is for you to decide.

I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone studying for the DAT. The format and questions themselves are very helpful in preparing you for the actual DAT itself. Being able to take timed practice tests on the computer at home was a good prep for the big test day.

These tests set up a realistic expectation for what I might see on the test as opposed to Kaplan's practice exam in the back of their book.

This book also has sections on the bellhousing and shifters. This is truly a reference book that will be by your side as you work. Expect this to get well worn if you work on this transmission.
