About the Author
Trina Vargo has served as the adviser on Irish issues to every Democratic nominee for president from Dukakis through Obama. She is the creator and president of the US-Ireland Alliance and also created the George J. Mitchell Scholarship program. Vargo served as a key behind-the-scenes player in the Northern Ireland peace process, including helping bring Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams to the US in 1994. She also served as Senator Edward Kennedy's foreign policy adviser for more than a decade. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Vargo is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and McGill University in Montreal.

This book gives an insiders view to the various dealings and structures that go on behind the scenes in this complex relationship of these two nations.Vargo pulls no punches in her assessment of the rough and tumble of this relationship and names names both on the postive and negative side and calls out inefficiencies, political manueuverings and BS where she has observed it.It is rare we get a ring side seat and an honest account of how the sausage is made in international relations - and this is a fantastic example.The US-Ireland relationship is an important one -- historically, culturally and financially - and we need intelligent and no holds barred accounts of how it works and where it is really at - so that we can learn from mistakes and get better.Not everyone will agree on Ms Vargo's take on all the issues - but nobody will dispute that is a compelling account from someone who has been on the front lines for over 20 years.The section on Hollywood and Film shines a light on the sometimes complete lack of joined up thinking on behalf of Ireland Inc. when it comes to it's approach to Film & TV and inward investment/cultural export .
